wedding season - part 2

Weddings are so fun for me because like fashion, I love the personal spin that gets put on them. You see the bride and grooms personalities come out in the details and it's truly amazing to see when you are a part of it. You may remember my last wedding post back in March when wedding season began for me. May rounded out wedding season for me as a bridesmaid this Spring, and I'm so happy to share my favorite memories and photos with you.

A month ago I got to watch one of my best friends marry her best friend, and it was everything I knew it would be! Leslie and I have been friends since the day we met, literally. I was riding the bus home one day in college, and a girl standing in the aisle was unknowingly hitting me in the head with her backpack. As I was ducking and dodging the swinging bag I heard snickering coming from across the aisle - insert Leslie.

Yes, I be-friened, best-friended and room-mated the girl that laughed at my misfourtune of seat choices, but I wouldn't have it any other way. Her stellar dance moves, wittiness and kind hearted soul are more than I could ask for in a friend over these past 8 years.

Typically I use my own personal photos for my blog posts, but as soon as I saw the set up of the reception I knew that there was no way I could capture every perfect detail that Leslie put into that evening. Alicia Pyne Photography did such a wonderful job capturing the personalization that Leslie put into her special day, and here are the moments I would like to share with you.

Bridesmaid dresses: Alfred Angelo - Earrings: Ruffled Button - Hair: Kim Morrison
  • "Perfect Mix" Snack Table: This was such a cute idea! On top of the adorable name and custom bags Leslie had made, who doesn't love a good snack table? As the night goes on and your dinner fades away as you frequent the dance floor, it was awesome to be able to head over to the snack table and fill a bag with delicious goodies!
  • Wooden Bench Guestbook: This is such a great idea for a keepsake that doesn't get tucked away in a box like a traditional guestbook. Everyone was able to sign their names, write a quick note and this is something that can easily be displayed in their home and will remind them everyday of their special day!
  • Loved One Memories: Weddings can be emotional when loved ones are not there to share that special day. There was a table set up at the reception with pictures in frames of every loved one that had passed and wasn't able to be there, such a sweet remembrance idea!
  • Personalization: If you know Leslie, she loves her some monogram! Everything at the wedding was personalized from our bouquets, to the cake cutting utensils, to the koozies, I love it! Both Leslie and Justin's personalities shined through in each and every detail of the wedding. Leslie's grandfather even snuck in and placed burnt orange longhorns all over the reception before everyone showed up! He might be a slight longhorn fan upset about the Aggie color theme that Leslie had :)

Congrats to Leslie and Justin on their first month of marriage, and many more months to come!

dancing in the dark + dallas arboretum

Happy Mother's Day! Yes, I know it's 5 days late to say that, but my Mom and I just celebrated Mother's Day together last night.

This year, I wanted to do something different for my Mom. I've done the spa gift cards, the clothes and shoes, the jewelry, all of that fun stuff, but this year I really wanted to do something fun for her. I follow the Dallas Arboretum on Twitter and I saw a tweet one day about outdoor concerts and it struck my interest, so I headed over to their website to check it out.

My mom loves music, LOVES music. She's the type of person that sings every word to every song! When I got to the concert page of the Dallas Arboretum, I couldn't believe how many options they had for their Cool Thursday Concert Series!

Not only does my Mom love Bruce Springsteen, the concert that was closest to Mother's Day just happened to be Bruce in the U.S.A! She was so excited when I gave her the tickets, but even more excited after we got there last night.

Not only is the Dallas Arboretum a beautiful place to stroll around and see the beautiful gardens, the weather was absolutely perfect last night to sit outside and enjoy some great music. People of all ages were there, even children, and everyone was dancing and singing and having a good time.

You can bring in your own food and drink, or they have food trucks available as well. The tickets are very reasonably priced and if you become a member, they're even better! I promise one visit won't be enough.

What did you do for your special lady this Mother's Day?

Happy Mother's Day, Mom! I LOVE YOU!

me + ensambl

Photography by: Ashley Mitchell

I am SO excited to announce the FIRST collaboration for alexandra's alley...

I have been working with the fabulous team of Ensambl to bring you some fun info about the app, how I use it daily, some of my personal styling tips and shopping advice, and a little more about me and where I get my fashion inspiration! Check out the latest blog post by Ensambl to read more about this collaboration and about my journey through the fashion world.

Without further adieu... Allow me to introduce to all of you, Ensambl!

Ensambl is an app containing weather inspired outfits, styled by bloggers from all over! What do you do when you don't know what to wear for that hot, summer day? When the temperature drops dramatically, how do you layer to stay warm but stay trendy at the same time? If you are traveling somewhere with a climate you are unfamiliar with, how do you pack?

When you open the application, it will prompt you to put in your current location, or any location you want to search for. Ensambl then pulls the current weather conditions for that location, gives you outfit suggestions and how they are styled, all based on the weather conditions - AMAZING!

My favorite time to use the app is when the Spring weather in Texas decides to change from a 90 degree high on Monday to a 60 degree high on Tuesday - everyone from Texas knows I'm not joking! I want to stay warm when the weather gets a little chilly, but I still want to dress seasonally appropriate in colors and fabrics. All I have to do is open up my Ensambl app and I can scroll through thousands of outfit suggestions. You can also save all of your favorite looks and refer back to them when needed!

When I am traveling is another time Ensambl really comes in handy. When I travel to Denver, California or anywhere with a weather change, Ensambl helps me not only plan what to pack, but to see how I can style those pieces in other ways to minimize my pack list.

I love the convenience of being able to search any location and that the app is accessible to me wherever and whenever I have time to browse! Ensambl also uploads outfit inspiration and style photos on their Instagram account (@ensambl) daily!

I have some exciting things planned with Ensambl in the near future. Stay tuned for more details on this collaboration and what's to come.....

Happy Monday!

white wednesday

Photography by: Ashley Mitchell

It's after Easter, so we can officially wear white! Yes, I know I'm following the "old school" rule...

Every Easter I always got new white shoes to wear to church, so of course it always consisted of a shopping trip with my mom. I guess that is the reason that I have always stuck to the old fashion rule! "No white after Labor Day, until Easter." What about you??

I switched it up this year and went for an all white outfit with neutral shoes - what a rebel! I just purchased these fabulous Vince wedges and I can't get enough of them. The heel height is perfect and the wedge makes them so comfortable!

They were an easy pairing with this all white Theory jacquard top and flared skirt. This matching separates outfit is great because the all white is chic when worn together, but it's also great for matching separates. I have worn the top with basic denim so many times for a dressed down look! Matching separates is a trend you will continue to see here on the blog. Remember those chic track pants? Yep, matching separates too!

Happy Wednesday!

pop of pink

Photography by: Ashley Mitchell

These pink pants had my heart the second I saw them at the Trina Turk store in Highland Park Village. I love colored pants, there are so many looks and statements that you can create with them depending on your mood or style!

You can pair bright colored pants back with prints, neutrals or another bright color to create a really bold fashion statement. This top I picked up at Zara is a basic black and white so it's a great neutral to pair with color. A crisp white shirt is always a go-to look when looking to create an outfit with a colored pant. This keeps the look professional while still looking high fashion with a bold pant choice.

I love these looks that showcase different ways to pair colored pants back to classic pieces, fun prints and basic neutrals. I've also pinned a lot of outfit looks I love on Pinterest for some added inspiration! How do you like to style your fun colored bottoms?

Happy Weekend!

jump right in

Photography by: Emily Jacks

Monday crept up on me a little to quick this week, but I'm jumping right into this exciting week ahead today - in my favorite Theory jumpsuit!

I am obsessed with jump suits - obsessed! I love the overall slimming effect jumpsuits have on every body type. You tie up the drawstring a little tighter so it hugs your waist a bit more, or tie it looser and wear it a little more slouchy - both are great options! An added plus, they come in all different colors and patterns so you're sure to find one that is perfect for you. A slight negative, trying to go to the bathroom and having to practically undress...

HOWEVER... The pro's outweigh the cons so lets just keep going.

This jumpsuit I am wearing is great because the variety of colors allows you to play with accessories and layering. In the Fall I wore this with a black blazer and black booties and am finding all sorts of fun ways to transition it to Spring. Today I am having fun layering with my white blazer and playing with open toed heels and wedges. Without a blazer you can dress this down with some sandals for a comfortable weekend look.

I'm so excited to continue to wear this fun piece throughout the season! What are some of your favorite jumpsuit looks you've seen?

Happy Monday!

hoppy easter

Happy Easter, everyone!

Some of my favorite memories growing up were spending Easter weekend with family. Every year we went to church and celebrated the resurrection of Jesus Christ and continued the day celebrating life and hunting eggs, of course.

Easter Sunday dresses were always a big shopping adventure for my mom and I. It was the first day that you got to wear white, so I would always get a new pair of shoes for this joyous day in fashion! Although the outfits and the pictures with the big bunny himself are all great, there is one Easter memory I wanted to share with you all.

(If you are a small child or Easter bunny believer, please don't read any further)

I grew up faster than most children because I was an only child and grew up around adults. My parents weren't ready for that next step in childhood where you become a non-believer. I already had it in my head that this large white bunny wasn't real, so my parents set out to change my mind.

On this Easter weekend in 1999, I decided that I wanted to the Easter bunnies autograph. I wrote him a note and set it out on Saturday night hoping that he would "write me back" when I woke up that next morning.

My Dad has always been the creative one in our family, so he took a sponge and cut it into a paw print. He grabbed some paint and lightly dabbed the paper to make it look like a mud written autograph. As a child, how exciting! I will give my parents an A+ for creativity now... but it took me a few years. I went on year after year thinking that the Easter bunny was indeed real and that I, ALEX, had his autograph.

I hope that you all enjoy this Easter Sunday and remember what today is really about. Take time to reminisce on these little moments of joy and spend quality time with your loved ones celebrating life and the blessings we have all been given.

Happy Easter!

wedding wednesday

Shopping for an occasion can be stressful. Knowing that you HAVE to have something packs on the pressure and can easily suck the fun out of shopping! I have so many weddings and showers to attend over the next two months that I am trying not to procrastinate on outfit shopping.

Not only can waiting until the last minute be stressful, you risk the possibility of buying something just for that specific occasion that you never wear again. Finding an outfit that works for the event you are attending, and can be worn with other items you already have makes the money worth spending.

The two outfits I have put together are a higher and lower price point option. Setting a budget for these events is also something you want to stay conscious of! I chose these two dresses because you can completely change the look of each dress depending on how you layer it and what accessories you choose. I always love being able to change pieces up and make them feel different or new again.

Click the links below to buy any piece directly, or head out to the mall this weekend and catch some great weekend sales! I'll share some of my favorite sales going on this weekend soon, stay tuned!

Don't procrastinate!
